We live in a world that constantly promotes the idea of scarcity. We are told there is not enough—that the earth is overpopulated and resources are limited. But if that were true, it would contradict the very nature of God.
Scripture reveals a different truth: God is a God of abundance.
Even natural observation challenges the scarcity mindset. Much of the earth remains uninhabited, and a large portion of land is still habitable. The issue is not that there is not enough—the issue is how humanity thinks and manages what God has already provided.
God never designed a world of lack. He designed a world of overflow.
God’s Original Design: More Than Enough
From the very beginning, God demonstrated abundance.
Genesis 1:29 (NIV)
“Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.’”
God gave Adam and Eve everything richly to enjoy. There was no lack in Eden.
Even after the flood, God reaffirmed His plan:
Genesis 9:2–3 (NIV)
“The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth… Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.”
God did not reduce His provision—He reaffirmed it. His intention has always been abundance.
The Real Problem: Misuse, Not Lack
The real issue is not scarcity—it is mismanagement.
A significant percentage of the world’s food is wasted. This reveals a powerful truth: the earth is producing more than enough, but humanity is not stewarding it properly.
1 Timothy 6:17 (NIV)
“…God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
God has already provided. The question is whether we are using it rightly.
Abraham: The Pathway to Abundance
Abraham’s life shows us how to access God’s abundance.
Genesis 12:1–3 (NIV)
“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you… and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
God promised to bless Abraham—but there was a condition: obedience.
Abraham had to leave the familiar and step into the unknown. Many want the blessing, but not the instruction. Yet abundance is often on the other side of obedience.
Genesis 13:1–2 (NIV)
“Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold.”
Within one chapter, Abraham stepped into visible abundance. Not because resources fell from heaven—but because God blessed what he was already doing.
Work Is a Channel for God’s Blessing
Work is not a curse—it is part of God’s design.
Genesis 2:15 (NIV)
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
God blesses the work of your hands. Abraham worked, and God multiplied it.
Overflow That Blesses Others
God’s blessing is never meant to stop with you.
Genesis 13:5–6 (NIV)
“Lot… also had flocks and herds… their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.”
Malachi 3:10 (NIV)
“…I will pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
God blesses you so you can become a blessing—to fund the gospel, to help others, and to impact lives.
Keeping God as Your Source
Abraham refused to let anyone else take credit for his blessing.
Genesis 14:22–23 (NIV)
“I will accept nothing belonging to you… so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’”
Genesis 15:1 (NIV)
“Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”
God is your source—not people, not systems.
Faith: The Key to Possessing the Promise
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
“Without faith it is impossible to please God… He rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
2 Peter 1:3–4 (NIV)
“His divine power has given us everything we need… through his very great and precious promises.”
The promises already exist—but you must take hold of them.
Fear, doubt, and unbelief are the real giants—but they can be conquered through the Word of God.
Conclusion: Step Into Overflow
Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”
God’s plan is abundance.
He desires to bless you until you become a blessing.
But this requires:
-
Obedience
-
Faith
-
Diligence
-
Trust in God
The question is not whether God has provided.
The question is: will you step forward and possess it?
