Abide, Don’t Just Visit

Abide, Don’t Just Visit

Bible Reading: John 10:1-10

Special Verse: John 8:31–32 — “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Many people blame God for everything that goes wrong in their lives, yet they have never truly given Him permission to work in their hearts. God has all authority, but He does not force Himself into a life where He is not welcomed. Just as a landlord cannot enter a tenant’s home without permission, God waits to be invited into our daily decisions through prayer, obedience, and time in His Word.

This is why so many Christians feel stuck. They go to church, sing, pray, and do all the right things outwardly, yet see little change. The problem is not church—it is the lack of abiding. Abiding is not visiting Jesus once a week; it is living in His presence and continuing in His Word throughout the week. The early church devoted themselves to Scripture, prayer, fellowship, and communion. Their devotion—not their routine—produced power, signs, and wonders.

When we treat the Word casually, our lives remain casual and unchanged. Real transformation begins when we take God’s Word as seriously as we take a prescription—when we set aside time, shut out distractions, and feed on Scripture because we know our lives depend on it. Discipline comes first, but soon it becomes delight.

God is not responsible for where you are today, but He is willing to take responsibility for where you are going—if you will abide. He promises that when you seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him. As you commit to His Word and prayer, you will begin to see freedom, healing, clarity, and strength in every area of your life.
