Bible Reading: Mark 3:1-6
Special Verse: Mark 3:5
And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
Anger is one emotion that is normally portrayed as being negative but let us remember that God gave us the ability to be angry. I would like to state clearly that anger as an emotion isn’t bad, but it is how we exhibit it that can make it bad. In the Old Testament we see God getting angry several times and also Jesus in the gospels. One common thread we observe is that God hates sin and gets angry at it. In today’s Bible reading Jesus was angry at the hardness of heart exhibited by the religious people of his time. He was angry that they were wrapped up in their selfishness and didn’t care about the suffering of the man with the widdered hand.
The truth is that it is sin when we aren’t angry at what makes God angry. God is angry at the forces of darkness that continues to destroy humanity and he arises to intervene when his children call on him. Without righteous indignation, children of God will remain complacent as demons reek havoc and pull millions to hell.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to areas of complacency in your life and fill you with holy anger so that you will be moved with compassion to break the powers of darkness of a lost world.
