Check Your Soil

Check Your Soil

Bible Reading: Luke 8:4-16

Memory verse: Luke 8: 15, “As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.”

On moving to New York, I planned that once I bought a house, I would plant beautiful flowers on my property. I knew it would be different from growing f lowers in Nigeria but I didn’t fully know the rules. I admired the colorful tulips and daffodils that blossomed in early spring and wondered how to grow them. Eventually, I learned I needed to plant them in fall for them to blossom in spring. So, in fall, I bought the bulbs, went out in the cold, dug up stones, uprooted unwanted plants in the ground, dug deep and planted the bulbs. I am checking to ensure that my soil and the environment is conducive for my plants.

This is the same way we should handle the word of God, because it is a spiritual seed that can not produce when planted in the wrong environment. It needs to be nurtured and protected from attitudes that will choke it. Uproot worry, lust, distractions and unbelief. Give it first place in your life and you will reap a great harvest in due season.
