Chosen and Sprinkled: Access Through the Blood

Chosen and Sprinkled: Access Through the Blood

Scripture Reference: 1 Peter 1:1-3

The Special Verse: “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels… And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel” (Hebrews 12:22-24, KJV)

Reflection:

Elect. That word means chosen. God foreknew us and chose us — and when we walk in obedience to Jesus, we become set apart for Him.

The sprinkling of Jesus’s blood gives us grace and peace in abundance. But how do we obey Jesus? We obey Him by receiving the gospel. That’s what brings the forgiveness of sin. So it’s important that I remember and understand exactly what I have when I obey the gospel and accept Jesus — I’m not just checking a box. I’m receiving forgiveness, grace, and peace in overflowing measure.

Here’s what settles my heart: God knew exactly what He was getting with me. He’s not ashamed of me. I was chosen before I ever did anything good or bad — just like Jacob was. I didn’t need to clean myself up first. I just needed to believe the gospel to qualify to walk in God’s grace and peace.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV)

Just like in the Old Testament they sprinkled blood to consecrate and cleanse, the blood of Jesus has also been sprinkled for the forgiveness of my sins. When I come to His throne, I don’t come on my own merit — I come by the blood of sprinkling, which speaks better things than the blood of Abel. Abel’s blood cried out for justice and vengeance. Jesus’s blood speaks a better word — it cries out grace, mercy, and access.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16, KJV)

That’s the invitation. Not to crawl to God in shame, but to come boldly — because the blood has already spoken on my behalf.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do you live like someone chosen and set apart by God, or do you still carry the weight of trying to qualify yourself for His grace?

  2. God knew exactly what He was getting with you — and He wasn’t ashamed. How does that truth change the way you see your past mistakes?

  3. Are you coming to God’s throne boldly, trusting in the blood of Jesus, or are you still hesitating at the door?

Prayer: Father, thank You for choosing me before I ever did anything good or bad. Thank You that I am not qualified by my own works, but by grace through faith in Jesus. Thank You for the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things on my behalf — that cries out grace and mercy instead of judgment. Help me to come boldly to Your throne, receiving the forgiveness, grace, and peace You have already given me in abundance. In Jesus’ name,
