Empowerment Comes From the Spirit Not the Law

Bible Reading: Romans 3:21-31

Memory verse: Galatians 3:5, “Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

When we seek to be justified by keeping to the Old Testament laws which were given on Mt. Sinai, we are actually putting ourselves in bondage and at a disadvantage. Hagar was Abraham’s slave and her baby Ishmael who came as a result of self-effort could not partake of the inheritance. Jesus once told the Pharisees they were trying to put burdens (laws) on people, which they themselves could not carry.

Be honest with yourself and admit that it is impossible to keep all the laws. The Mosaic laws were given to help you see how helpless you are. Let me also say the Holy Spirit is also not in us to help us keep the laws of Moses. He is in you, so that Christ can live life in and through you. When that happens, you experience God’s unmerited favor and supernatural ability to live a godly life. For those who don’t know the salvation Jesus offers from the penalty of sin, which is eternity in the lake of fire. Jesus is not condemning but if you reject him, you condemn yourself. You are saved when you repent and believe in Jesus as your only savior.
