Fear is Evidence of Lack of Trust

Fear is Evidence of Lack of Trust

Bible Reading: Judges 7:2-25

Memory verse: Judges 6:10, “Also I said to you, ‘I am the LORD your God; do not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.’ But you have not obeyed My voice.”

God sent a prophet to the Israelites when they cried to Him because the Midianites were oppressing them. From our memory verse, we see that God’s response to them was more of a rebuke because He had told them not to be afraid. Being afraid and running from our enemies is an act of disobedience. God, in this scripture, reminded them of all the battles He had fought for them. He was telling them that the Amorites are no big deal for Him, but they needed to trust Him. One danger of living in fear is that it will lead you to compromise and sin against God, like we saw in the life of the Israelites.

Later, when Gideon assembled an army, God made sure he dropped the fearful. God purposely reduced Gideon’s army from over 30,000 men to 300 men. This points out that you don’t need a multitude to fight with for you for you to succeed.

The stories in the Bible are not just stories, but rather are testimonies which should encourage us to trust God. God is no respecter of persons, and if we can believe it and hold onto His word, victory is sure.
