Bible Reading: John 14:1–3; Hebrews 11:13–16
Key Verse: Colossians 3:2
"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
The great men and women of faith were able to endure hardship because they understood something many people easily forget: this world is not our final home. They looked beyond their present circumstances and fixed their eyes on a city whose Builder and Maker is God. Because they lived with eternity in view, they were willing to endure sacrifice, hardship, and loss without losing hope.
Modern culture constantly encourages us to focus on the present. We are taught to accumulate possessions, pursue status, build wealth, and measure success by what we can achieve here on earth. While there is nothing wrong with enjoying God's blessings or being good stewards of what He provides, those things were never meant to become the center of our lives.
God desires that we seek Him first above everything else. When He becomes our highest priority, we begin to hold earthly possessions with open hands rather than tightly clinging to them. Instead of living for material gain alone, we begin to see every resource, opportunity, and blessing as a tool that can be used to glorify God and impact others for eternity.
Jesus comforted His disciples by reminding them that He was preparing a place for them. Heaven is not simply an abstract idea or a distant hope. It is a promised reality for every believer. Knowing this changes the way we approach life today. Temporary difficulties no longer have the power to completely discourage us because we know our story does not end here.
The Apostle Paul was able to finish his race because he never lost sight of the eternal reward that awaited him. He understood that every act of obedience, every sacrifice, every soul reached, and every step of faith carried eternal significance.
The same is true for us today.
When we live with eternity in view, we gain a different perspective. Temporary setbacks become smaller, trials become easier to endure, and hope becomes stronger because we know that God's promises extend far beyond this present life.
Do not become so consumed with building a life on earth that you forget to prepare for eternity.
The things of this world will eventually pass away, but what is done for God will last forever.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to keep my eyes fixed on eternal realities rather than temporary circumstances. Teach me to live each day with purpose and to invest my life in things that matter forever. Align my heart with Your priorities and help me never lose sight of the eternal reward You have prepared for those who love You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today's Declaration
I will not be consumed by temporary things. My eyes are fixed on eternity, my hope is anchored in Christ, and my life will be invested in what lasts forever.
