Bible Reading: Genesis 4:1-15
Special Verse : Haggai 1:5
Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.
There is a Christian philosophy— Christian cliché—that we hear often, especially when something bad happens: “God allowed it.” We usually add to it, “Everything happens for a reason. If God didn’t want it to happen, it wouldn’t have happened.”
That way of thinking is actually very contrary to what the Word of God teaches. When we adopt this mindset, we strip the Word of God of its power and effectiveness. These religious mindsets do not help Christianity—they hurt it. While believers explain away tragedy by saying God allowed it, the devil continues to wreak havoc.
Let me give a clear biblical example: the story of Cain and Abel. God did not allow Cain to kill Abel. Cain exercised his God-given right of choice, and that choice led him to murder his brother. We see this clearly in Genesis chapter 4. God did everything He could to warn Cain. He told him not to be angry and said, “Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
That statement alone tells us something powerful: human beings can take control of their emotions, resist sin, and prevent its consequences. But Cain did not listen. He chose to ignore God’s warning, killed his brother, and then faced the consequences of his actions. He became a fugitive.
This is a clear example of how our choices affect other people. Often, we do not fully understand the consequences of our decisions—whether good or bad. What comes out of our choices is usually far greater than what we expected. That is why Scripture teaches that we always reap more than what we sow.
So, remember next time a tragedy occurs that it isn’t God allowing it but it is the consequence of sin and human choices.
