Bible Reading: Joshua 18:1-6
Memory Verse: Joshua 18:3 (NIV)
“So Joshua said to the Israelites: ‘How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you?’”
How often do we say, “I’m waiting on God to do it”? This mindset can be a tool the enemy uses to keep us from receiving our full inheritance—the abundant life God has already prepared for us. Much like the children of Israel, this often happens after we get saved (enter into our promised land) and experience a portion of God’s goodness. We tend to settle, forgetting there is so much more.
At this point in their journey, God wasn’t telling the Israelites that He will give them the land. Instead, He used the word “given,” meaning the action was already completed. Yet, physically, they hadn’t possessed all of it. In God’s mind, our healing, prosperity, promotion, and deliverance are already completed. It’s now up to us to take possession of what we need. We don’t need to ask God to give us these things; instead, we must take hold of them by force from the enemy. This requires engaging in the fight of faith—a fight God calls “a good fight” because it’s one we are destined to win.
Notice that Joshua used the word “slack,” which can imply being slow or lazy. It’s spiritual laziness and a lack of aggression that keeps us from our inheritance—not God’s delay. Today, change your mindset and stop “waiting on God” to give you what He has already provided. Go ahead and take it by faith!
