Devotional
One of the enemy's subtle lies is convincing believers that supporting those who have dedicated their lives to preaching the gospel is optional or unnecessary. Yet throughout Scripture, God establishes a different principle. Those who faithfully minister spiritual things are worthy of receiving material support from those they serve.
Consider how our culture values entertainment. People willingly spend thousands of dollars on concert tickets, sporting events, or other experiences without hesitation. Yet some struggle to faithfully support their local church or the ministers who devote their lives to teaching God's Word and caring for God's people. We often celebrate investments in temporary enjoyment while questioning investments in eternal purposes.
The Apostle Paul addressed this very issue in 1 Corinthians 9. He explained that those who preach the gospel have a biblical right to live from the gospel. Those who dedicate themselves to studying Scripture, praying, shepherding God's people, counseling the hurting, discipling believers, and proclaiming the truth should not have to carry the burden of ministry alone. Supporting them is not merely an act of kindness—it is a biblical principle established by God.
The work of ministry extends far beyond what is seen on a Sunday morning. Behind every sermon are hours of prayer, study, preparation, counseling, visitation, mentoring, and personal sacrifice. Much of this work happens quietly and often goes unnoticed. Yet God sees it all and calls His people to honor those who faithfully labor in His harvest.
Faithful ministers contribute to people's lives in ways that reach beyond this world. While entertainers and athletes may provide moments of enjoyment, those who faithfully preach the gospel point people to eternal life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God uses His servants to bring hope, healing, restoration, freedom, and spiritual transformation—blessings that no amount of money can purchase.
If a church or ministry has strengthened your faith, taught you God's Word, or helped you grow spiritually, Scripture encourages you to honor those who have invested in your life. When you support the work of the gospel, you become a partner in every life that is transformed, every soul that is saved, and every person who encounters Christ through that ministry. Your giving becomes an eternal investment whose rewards will far outlast this present life.

Prayer
Father, thank You for the men and women You have called to preach Your gospel and shepherd Your people. Forgive me for ever valuing temporary entertainment above eternal truth. Give me a generous heart that gladly honors those who labor in Your Kingdom. Help me recognize the eternal value of supporting the gospel and to become a faithful partner in the work You are doing throughout the earth. May my resources be used to advance Your Kingdom and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
