In today's fast-paced world, so many things are fighting for our attention-social media, news, work, and entertainment. But in the midst of it all, God still calls us to prioritize His Word above everything else.
As I was reading Deuteronomy 6, I was reminded of how God instructed the Israelites to treat His Word with utmost seriousness. Here's what Moses told them:
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."
(Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
God wanted His Word to be everywhere-written, spoken, memorized, and lived out. He wasn't asking them to casually skim the Scriptures. He wanted the people to immerse themselves in it. He told them to impress His commandments on their children, talk about them constantly, and make the Word visible throughout their homes.
Why Indoctrination Isn't a Bad Word
These days, people push back when you teach your children about God. But here's the truth: if you don't teach your children God's Word, the world will indoctrinate them with its own values. You are either training them or letting the culture train them.
Don't have a casual relationship with Scripture. Be intentional. Make God's Word part of your daily life-when you sit, when you walk, when you go to bed, and when you wake up. It's not about legalism-it's about building a foundation.
Let the Word Consume Your ConversationsAsk yourself: How often do I talk about God's Word? What usually dominates your
conversations-politics, current events, social media trends? While those topics may matter, they shouldn't consume us. Instead, Scripture should be the heartbeat of our lives and conversations.
When God's Word becomes a priority, it begins to change you. And it requires more than just a 15-minute devotional in the morning or a one-hour Sunday service. Real transformation comes when you meditate on the Word consistently-memorize it, study it, and let it dwell richly in your heart.
"Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks."
The Word can only fill your heart if you're constantly feeding on it.
Saturate Your Environment with Scripture
Want real change in your life-your finances, your habits, your struggles? Start writing down relevant Scriptures and placing them where you'll see them often-on your mirrors, doors, refrigerator, phone screens.
Let the Word surround you and speak to you throughout your day. Struggling with finances? Post verses about God's provision. Battling fear? Post verses on peace and courage. Make your home a sanctuary of Scripture.
Train Your Children in the Word
Let's be honest-if we're not discipling our kids, TikTok, YouTube, and the internet will. Be the first voice they hear when it comes to God. Turn family time into teaching time. Read together, pray together, and let them see your own love for the Word.
Cut Out the Noise
Yes, it's important to be informed about current events, but you don't need to check the news ten times a day. Once you know the headline, go back to the Bible. That's where you'll find peace anddirection.
I had to make that change myself. God spoke to me clearly: "Stella, give My Word even more priority." And I'm encouraging you to do the same. Trim away the distractions, and give yourself fully to the Word of God.
Spiritual Growth Requires Discipline
Let's be real-it takes discipline to study the Bible. But it's worth it. Ask God to give you wisdom, hunger, and insight. Don't quit just because the Word seems dry at first. Stick with it, and your spiritual appetite will grow. The Bible says: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."
The Word Will Change You
The more time you spend in Scripture, the more it will shape you. It cleanses, renews, and strengthens. It's not just words-it's spiritual medicine. It's the sin-killer. It's the disinfectant that removes the desire to rebel against God.
Jesus said, "If you continue in My Word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (John 8:31-32)
So bind the Word to your heart. Talk about it with your friends. Write it on your walls. Replace distractions with the Bible. It will transform your life.
