Bible Reading: John 17:1-5
Memory verse: 1 John 5:11-12, “And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.”
In writing the book of 1 John, the author wants us to grasp the reality of our relationship and what we have in Christ. The truth is that eternal life is the Jesus and the very life of God. Knowing Jesus is eternal life because you get set free from Satan’s bondage so you can live the life of God on earth.
Eternal life cannot be living forever because every person will live forever somewhere - with Christ or in the lake of fire with the devil. Eternal life is the God life which enables us to rule, reign and dominate in the here and now, and forever. If we know we have this in us and have fellowship with the author of this life - Jesus Christ, then how can we continue to walk in darkness? 1 John 1:5. So, John enjoins believers of his time to appreciate the importance of fellowship with fellow believers who have fellowship with Christ because they too will experience the same fellowship. Fellowship with Christ breaks the power of sin and empowers us to live in dominion over the attacks of the devil.
