Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 12:1-8
Memory verse: Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”
Another thing I learned from my garden was that life is like a piece of land which is limited in size and usage. I planted corn on 75% of the land that I set aside. On the rest of the land, I planted four different herbs and started eating from them a few weeks later and continue to do so till date. However, my corn took about four months before I could harvest it. I also watered and weeded the farm constantly. As harvest approached, I kept wondering if my effort was worth it because I realized that no matter how good the harvest is, I couldn’t get up to 30 ears of corn which may cost about $40 in the supermarket. It saddened me a bit as I reflected on all the trouble and cost of water spent on maintaining the crops. I began to wonder if I should have bothered planting the corn but God spoke to me again. The Holy Spirit helped me see that life is similar to this scenario.
Many people never think through what they invest their life in, in spite of the fact that we have a limited life span. Whatever you invest your life in will come back to you. As a result, a lot of people have regrets in old age, when like me, they look at their harvest and realize they had spent their energy on the wrong things. It is therefore important that you cost your life’s investment like the corn. Investing your life in God is like building with precious stones and its rewards/harvest will continue to produce for all eternity. Sin gives empty and temporary pleasure, leaving you with nothing but death.
