Devotional
God has uniquely called every believer to play a part in advancing His Kingdom. No two callings are identical, but every assignment is important. Fulfilling God's purpose requires two essential qualities: a surrendered heart and the courage to obey Him.
Joseph of Arimathea teaches us a powerful lesson about surrender. As a wealthy and respected member of the Jewish council, he possessed something of great value—a newly prepared tomb. Instead of holding tightly to what was his, he willingly offered it to Jesus. His act of generosity fulfilled prophecy and became part of God's redemptive plan. What we surrender to God is never wasted.
There are moments when following Christ requires boldness. After Jesus' crucifixion, many of His followers hid in fear. Yet Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus stepped forward publicly to identify themselves with Christ. They risked their reputations, influence, and positions because honoring Jesus had become more important than protecting themselves.
Many believers begin their walk with Christ quietly, but God never intended us to remain secret disciples forever. Mark 15:42–43 tells us that Joseph boldly approached Pilate to request the body of Jesus. His faith became visible when it mattered most. The Kingdom of God advances through believers who are willing to stand for truth, even when doing so comes at a personal cost.
Joseph's actions also reveal a heart of faith. He did not view the crucifixion as the end of the story. By honoring Jesus in His burial, Joseph demonstrated confidence that God's promises would still come to pass. His hope rested in God's Word rather than in what his eyes could see.
Today, many Christians face pressure to keep their faith private at work, in school, or in society. Yet God is still looking for men and women who will lovingly and respectfully stand for Him. Courage does not mean the absence of fear—it means choosing obedience despite fear.
Joseph and Nicodemus remind us that God often uses unexpected people to accomplish His purposes. While many of the disciples scattered, these two men stepped forward and fulfilled biblical prophecy concerning Jesus' burial. Your willingness to obey God today may be the very thing He uses to accomplish His plan tomorrow.

Prayer
Father, thank You for calling me to be part of Your Kingdom. Give me the courage to stand for Jesus without fear and the humility to surrender whatever You ask of me. Help me never to be ashamed of the gospel but to boldly represent You wherever You place me. May my life fulfill Your purposes just as Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus fulfilled Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen.
