Paul the Preacher Tent Maker

Paul the Preacher Tent Maker

BIBLE READING : ACTS 18:1-6

Special Verse: Acts 18:3

They made tents for a living. Paul did the same kind of work so he stayed with them and they worked together.

When you read the  epistles, you may be tempted to think that Apostle Paul was a full time preacher. By this we mean he had no circular work. This was interestingly not the case. Paul was actually a preacher tentmaker. An important truth to note in his life was that his calling moved him not his occupation. He didn't move to where tent making opportunities were, then preached the gospel. The opposite was the case. He let the Holy Spirit lead him in his missionary work and then found work to do to sustain his ministry. He refused to be dependent on people to meet his financial needs. God was his provider and he never lacked.

Apostle Peter was on the other hand completely dependent on the people he ministered to. Every profession we are in is a missionary field and we ought to create avenues to preach the gospel to people. We shouldn't take jobs because of how much we'll get paid but because God directed us to. There are colleagues you will work with who will never be reached by the greatest preachers of our time. God will put you in their path for a singular purpose of sharing the gospel. Today be the light of Christ to them.
