Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:12-18
Memory verse: 1 John 4:17, “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”
The scripture above clearly shows us that we are in a new covenant with God because of the death of Jesus on the cross. Compare this to Isaiah 59:1-2 “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” Under the Law of Moses, our sins could separate us from God, but Jesus made an eternal sacrifice for our sin and redemption. This is for past, present, and future sin. You must agree with me that all our sins were futuristic when Jesus paid for them. Let us now look at Hebrews 10:26, 29, “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”
Note that there are certain important things mentioned here that will cause you to face the wrath of God. These are: (1) willful sin, (2)despise for the law of God, (3) threading underfoot the Son of God, (4) counting the blood of Jesus an unholy thing, and (5) insulting the Spirit of grace. You have to meet these criteria to miss heaven.
Our righteousness is by faith. Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Clearly, it is faith that saves us. Living by faith and believing in Jesus is what guarantees heaven, not your works. For you to meet the criteria of Hebrews 10:26-29, the implication is that you stopped living by faith and rejected Jesus. If you still love God and desire to please Him, this is not talking about you. You are not of them that draw back and are destroyed. So be encouraged, missing the mark at the point of rapture will not disqualify you because Jesus’ blood covers you. I am sure this encourages you to love God more, not want to go and wallow in sin.
