Righteousness-Consciousness Sets You Free from Sin

Righteousness-Consciousness Sets You Free from Sin

Bible Reading: Romans 5:17-18; Ephesians 2:8

Memory verse: Ephesians 2:8, “For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”

Would like to share a text message I received this morning with you all: “Ever since I discovered that righteousness is what I am and not what I do, I’ve been such a different person. I don’t know why I got it now, though it took so long for me. So, even if I sin, I’m righteous. I can hear the Holy Spirit so clear.” What a profound truth, and I rejoice with my sister that she now understands what Jesus did for us.

Righteousness is a gift which is not dependent on works, so that no one can boast (Romans 5:17-18; Galatians 2:16, 21; 5:4.-5; Ephesians 2:8-9). It is not the amount of sin that makes you a sinner because one sin is as bad as ten (James 2:10). In the same way, no matter how good a sinner is, he can never be righteous. That is why we need Jesus’ blood and death, so that none of us can boast. Does this truth give us a license to sin? God forbid! Rather, it causes us to love Jesus more, and say no to ungodliness and every evil work (Titus 2:11).

Right believing will produce right living. Receive this truth and you will experience a level of relationship with Jesus beyond your wildest dream. This truth will set you free from condemnation, guilt, and shame. These three emotions are what make us run from rather than run to God.
