Seek His Face, Not His Hand
Bible Reading: Exodus 33:11–18;
Special Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:11
Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Moses wanted to know God—not just what God could do. There’s a difference between knowing God’s hand (His blessings, provisions, miracles) and knowing God’s face (His heart, character, voice). Israel often craved the hand of God: “What can we get?” Moses pursued the face of God: “Who are You?” That difference matters because when your focus becomes “God, give me,” you can build a ministry and still drift from intimacy. You can fast, pray, serve, and still be led by ambition instead of affection. You can chase results and end up burned out—because you were running on performance, not presence.
On the other hand, when you seek His face, something shifts. Your identity becomes Christ—not gifts, not miracles, not visibility. The Word transforms you. The Holy Spirit reshapes your desires and what you do begins to flow from who you are in Christ.
This is why Scripture says those examples from the past were written as a warning to us—so we don’t repeat the same mistakes. God is calling His people back to the secret place—back to fellowship—back to knowing Him.
Prayer: Father, forgive me for seeking Your hand more than Your face. Draw me into true fellowship with You.
Reflection: When you pray and fast, is it mostly about getting something—or knowing Someone?
