Set Your Mind on God

Bible Reading: Colossians 3:1-2

Memory verse: Colossians 3:2, “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:2 challenges us to set our minds on things above where Christ is seated. What does this mean and how does it apply to us as children of the kingdom? As a teacher, I know how many times I tell my listeners to stay focused on the lesson. This means that they need to keep their minds from wondering. When your mind wonders away from your environment and what is being said, the environment seizes to influence and change you. We have all read in scripture that we are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, far above principalities and powers, yet the average Christian does not reflect this. We find ourselves being whipped and oppressed by a defeated enemy.

God wants us to set our minds on heavenly things where Christ is seated. He admonishes us to be conscious and filled with thoughts of our supernatural environment. Imagine focusing
