The Table Is Set—Come and Eat

The Table Is Set—Come and Eat

The Table Is Set—Come and Eat

Bible Reading: Luke 14:15–24;

Special Verse: Psalm 23:5

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Jesus told a parable about a great banquet. Everything was ready. The table was set. The invitation was sent. But people started making excuses—land, work, responsibilities, relationships. Not sinful excuses—just “important” excuses.  This is what happens when life becomes loud and fellowship becomes optional. God is inviting you to His table: healing, peace, wisdom, joy, direction, strength—His Word is full of it. Yet many believers try to live on leftovers: quick prayers, rushed devotion, distracted worship, and spiritual snacks. Meanwhile, heaven is calling: “Come, for all things are now ready.”

The beauty of the parable is this: the master wants the house full. God is determined to fill His kingdom. And in a profound way, the invitation isn’t only for the world—it’s also for believers who have been living far from the table while still attending the house.

A host doesn’t set a table and disappear. He sits with His guests. God wants communion, not just attendance. He wants koinonia—real fellowship.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me respond to Your invitation. I lay down my excuses. I come to your table. Feed me and transform me.

Reflection: What excuse do you most often use to avoid consistent time with God?
