The Word Should be Our Only Priority

The Word Should be Our Only Priority

BIBLE READING: JOSHUA 1:1-8

Special Verse: Psalm 119:105

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.

After the death of Moses, Joshua was chosen by God to lead the children of Israel into the promised land. From the tone of God’s word to Joshua in chapter 1, it is obvious that Joshua must have been concerned about the task ahead. However, God spelt out to him how he was going to complete the task in very simple steps. They were as follows:

  1. Only speak what is the book of the law
  2. Be careful to meditate/ think only about it day and night
  3. Be careful to observe and do all that is written in it.

If he followed all three steps, God assured him, he will make his way prosperous and have good success. It was clear that without Joshua sticking to these three instructions consistently, success was going to elude him.

From this we see there was no room for half hearted commitment to the word of God. God has not changed since the time of Joshua. He tells us again today that if we must have good success, we must make his word our only prior.
