Bible Reading: John 13:1-5
Memory verse: John 13:3, “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.”
One of the best things we can do for ourselves is to know who we are and what we have in Christ. This knowledge, is what led Jesus to stoop down and serve his disciples. Knowing who you are and what you have will also keep you from being offended by what people say to you. By washing his disciples’ feet Jesus was demonstrating ownership of all things. The disciples were part of his jurisdiction and in washing their feet he was taking care of what belonged to him.
Many leaders consider it demeaning to serve others because they have a different mindset. They try to protect a position of superiority. Our service to one another does not reduce our position in God’s sight. It also follows that God can ask any of his children to take up all kinds of responsibilities. The most important thing is to be where he wants you and do what he asks of you.
