When the Storm Tests the Word

When the Storm Tests the Word

Scripture: Mark 4:35–41

Jesus spent the day teaching His disciples about the kingdom of God—about the Word as seed. Then, as evening came, He gave them a simple instruction: “Let us go over to the other side.” That sentence wasn’t small talk. It was a Word spoken by the One who is the Word. Jesus wasn’t making a suggestion, he intended that they would get to the other side.

But almost immediately, a fierce storm rose. Waves crashed into the boat. Water poured in. And the disciples—experienced fishermen—did what many of us do: they panicked, leaned on human effort, and then cried out, “Jesus, don’t You care?”

Here’s the part that should wake us up: the storm didn’t wake Jesus—the disciples did because they were filled with fear. Jesus stood, rebuked the wind, spoke to the waves, and calm came instantly. Then He turned to the disciples and rebuked them: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

The lesson is clear: revelation will be tested. When God gives you a Word—when Scripture becomes real to you—expect the enemy to challenge it. The test comes to destroy you; but you need to use it as an opportunity to see God’s word work.. Always remember that God wants you to move from hearing the Word to using the Word.

So, don’t let storms make you forget what God already said. If He spoke “the other side,” then drowning is not your destination.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, remind me of Your Word when the storm rises. Teach me to respond in faith instead of fear. I choose to stand on what You have spoken. Amen.
