Who You Serve Determines Your Pay

Who You Serve Determines Your Pay

Bible Reading: Matthew 6:19-34
Special Verse: Matthew 6:33
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
In Matthew 6, before Jesus addresses the issue of anxiety, He emphasizes the importance of choosing whom you serve—either God or mammon. To serve someone or something means that you acknowledge them as your master. This involves taking instructions from them, allowing them to dictate how you spend your time, and ultimately, they determine your “pay”—what you gain from serving them.
If you choose to serve God, you must trust Him completely as a loving Heavenly Father who will take care of your needs. Your mindset should reflect the understanding that you are His responsibility. Jesus reminds us that life is more valuable than material needs, and therefore, we shouldn't worry about these things.
Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet God provides for them. This demonstrates that it is not your effort or sweat that meets your needs, but your Father’s loving provision. Serving God means trusting in His faithfulness and prioritizing His kingdom, knowing that everything else will follow.
