Why We Must Be Born Again
Bible Reading: John 3:1-17
Special Verse: John 3:3 — “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Many people believe that being a good person is enough to reach God. They think that if they try their best and live morally, God will accept them. I always remind people at if being good by ourselves could save us, then Jesus wouldn’t need to have come to suffer gruesomely and die on the cross for our sins. That is why the Bible reveals something deeper about the condition of humanity.
The problem of humanity is not simply bad actions. The problem is the nature of sin that entered humanity through Adam. Because of this nature, no human effort can restore the life of God within us. That is why Jesus said that we must be born again. When a person believes in Jesus and receives Him, something supernatural happens. God gives that person a new spiritual life.
The Bible says:
John 1:12 — “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.”
This new birth is not about religion. Christianity is not simply a set of rules. It is a restored relationship with God. Just as a fish cannot survive outside water because it does not have the nature to live there, a human being cannot enter heaven without the life of God. Being born again gives us that new life. So when next you hear someone say, “I was born this way and can’t change my ways.” Remind them that they can be born again into a new life.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for making it possible for me to be born again. Help me walk daily in the new life You have given me. Amen.
