You Can Be a Christian Prostitute

Bible Reading : Jeremiah 29:11-14

Special Veres: Deuteronomy 16:21

You shall not plant for yourself an Asherah of any kind of tree beside the altar of the Lord your God, which you shall make for yourself.

Jeremiah 29:11 is a well-loved scripture, but many Christians are unaware of the context in which it was written. At the time, Israel was under God’s judgment for spiritual unfaithfulness. Despite His command to worship Him alone, they built altars and erected Asherahs alongside those dedicated to Jehovah. This idolatry provoked God to jealousy, leading Him to allow the King of Babylon to destroy their nation and carry them into exile.

While most of us today wouldn’t erect literal Asherahs, we often worship other "gods" in our lives alongside God. These can take the form of prioritizing careers, children, relationships, hobbies, or even persistent sin over our relationship with Him. This is what spiritual unfaithfulness—or "Christian prostitution"—looks like.

Jesus reminded us that we cannot serve two masters. It’s crucial to regularly evaluate our priorities and ensure nothing competes with God’s rightful place at the center of our lives.

If you find that God is not your top priority, take time to repent and seek Him wholeheartedly. Only then will you truly experience His presence and the abundant life He has prepared for you.
