Bible Reading: Matthew 13: 1-10
Memory verse: Matthew 13:8, “But other seed fell on good ground, and yielded a crop Some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
For the first time in years, I planted a garden. The main crop was sweet corn and just started to harvest them. As I looked at my harvest, I felt a bit disappointed because some of the plants didn’t do well. Secondly, most of the ears of corn were not as big as the ones I normally buy from the stores. However, I remembered that it is possible the store bought ones were fed with inorganic fertilizers to make them that big which wasn’t the case with mine. I had let them grow naturally. As I thought about my harvest, one thing I know is that just one ear of corn produced more than the content of sachet of seeds I had planted. Moreover, I was yet to finish harvesting my whole farm. The implication is that I am reaping way more than what I planted.
Consider the parable of the sower, I see it being played out in my backyard. Not all my seeds germinated, some did but died after a while. Finally, those that brought forth a harvest did not produce equally but the harvest was way more than what was planted. Some seeds produced thirty, sixty and a hundred fold. So, we must all be encouraged to keep planting and investing our lives in the kingdom of God. Some of our efforts may experience crop failure but we will definitely get a harvest and it will make up for the seeds that didn’t. On the other hand, if we are sowing in to the wrong thing, we will also reap more than what we sow in a negative way.
